About
Hello, I’m Shani, the person behind Well Grown.
At the end of 2019, while already on a path of searching for a new direction in life, I came across the term Therapeutic Horticulture and had a light bulb moment. I didn’t even fully know what it meant, but something about it felt right.
This was what I wanted to do.
I’ve always worked with people, in previous careers in hospitality and in higher education, and I knew I wanted to continue in that space. Therapeutic horticulture also connected me back to my roots, growing up close to the land, with my father being an agronomist and passionate gardener.
What I love most about this work is the opportunities it gives me, to create a calm and welcoming space for people to connect, belong and grow.
My approach is shaped by my own life experiences and the qualifications I’ve acquired, as well as years of working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, including cultural, ability, age and identity.
It is a collaborative practice grounded in respect, empathy and curiosity.
There is an inherent flexibility to working with nature, and I enjoy bringing that into my sessions. Sometimes we are active and hands-on in the garden, other times things are slower and more reflective. Conversations unfold naturally, often alongside shared stories, experiences and quiet moments.
For me, therapeutic horticulture is challenging, fulfilling and deeply enriching.
It makes me feel well grown.
